The name of IMMEDIATE former Kuresoi South Legislator and Moi regime’s powerful Internal Security Permanent Secretary Zakayo Cheruiyot has featured among the people proposed by the Statehouse inner operatives to fill the vacant slots in the Cabinet.
Sources close to State House confided to us that Cheruiyot is in the list of handshake loyalists forwarded to President Uhuru Kenyatta and set to be considered soon.
“Cheruiyot recently got a call from the
Statehouseinforming him to be ready for the forthcoming task that will need him to dedicate his full time in serving the nation,” Said a source close to the former MP
It is, however, not clear why the once-powerful PS has been proposed to the Cabinet in spite being allied to CCM’s (Chama Cha Mashinani) Isaac Ruto but credible speculations hint that he has what it takes to tame DP William Ruto in Rift Valley while paving way for BBI-fronted referendum.
Cheruiyot who has experience in the country’s security spanning to 35 years has blessings of Kenyatta and Odinga family that are now rooting for an inclusive government and fighting the alleged seclusion being championed by the DP.
Since he came to power, President Uhuru has tapped the expertise of the security chiefs who have been placed at country’s critical positions and this might see through the former DP Ruto’s ally who had a stake in the defunct United Republican Party (URP) but was kicked out in the unclear circumstance.
President Uhuru is expected to reorganize his Cabinet soon. The Labour CS Ukur Yatani is still the acting National Treasury CS after Henry Rotich was fired on corruption claims.
Cheruiyot who represented Kuresoi in Parliament for two terms lost his seat to Joseph Tonui in the last General Elections after fallout with Deputy President William Ruto who is said to have caused his seat alongside former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto after they formed CCM party.
The increasing number of politicians from Rift who are grouping to weaken DP Ruto’s support in Rift is attributed to Cheruiyot’s own strategies. They include Uasin Gishu governorship aspirant cum businessman Zedekiah Bundotich and KANU’s Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
However, when contacted for comment, Cheruiyot didn’t confirm or deny the alleged plans when he just responded that anything is possible.
