If Belgut Constituency in Kericho County is not lucky, then it is blessed equally to biblical Bethlehem. A few days after we unearthed a family whose nine members secured lucrative jobs at the KTDA-managed Tegat Tea Factory, another miracle has happened.
While the nearby County of Bomet is crying of cropping marginalization, the yesterday Cabinet shuffle by President Uhuru Kenyatta has elicited mixed reactions across the South Rift after two close relatives from the same Constituency made it to the newly installed Cabinet.
County Post has established that while majority of Kericho residents are grateful to President Uhuru for retaining Charles Keter, they are protesting elevation of CS Maina claiming that despite her rich profile and vast experience spanning to 30 years at Country’s senior positions, she has never been felt.
The leaders are Energy Cabinet Secretary Charles Keter and Betty Maina who are allegedly close relatives.
“We have nothing to celebrate in her (Maina) elevation, imagine she has been holding senior government jobs before she became Trade and Industry PS for the past seven years, but she don’t even attend neighbours’ harambees” a source said
According to our sources, Ms. Maina doesn’t want to be muddled for a politician yet she is a professional.
However, many are happy that Charles who has been wholeheartedly participating in community activities with the most recent one being Olerai Bethel AGC church that he single-handedly built as a call for cohesion among the communities living in the volatile area.
“We are glad that CS Keter was retained. He is a man of the people who has a heart for the community. We still need him to lead us,” John said
The miracle is now the theme of social media and grapevine conversation with many suggesting that President could have observed regional balance.
