Busaa, The Only Medicine To Fight Coronavirus- Kericho Governor

Kericho Governor Prof Paul Chepkwony

Kericho Governor Prof. Paul Chepkwony has justified that Busaa is the only preventive and treatment medicine for the deadly Coronavirus that has caused havoc to.more than 25 countries of the world.

Busaa is a brown porridge-looking traditional brew that has been in existence since time immemorial and is popular in Western, Nyanza and some parts of Rift Valley.

” To control the spread of Coronavirus, we need to understand it as a virus. Viruses are the links between the dead and the living and when they are outside, they are dead. The structure of a virus has two major parts; the outer protein coating and the inner genetic material called RNA,.” the Governor said

He added ” Its protein coating contains two ends: amino group and a carboxyl group and just like a virus causing foot and mouth disease in cattle, Coronavirus can effectively be controlled using alcohol (ethanol, busa residue),”

Traditional brews (Busaa)

According to the Chemistry professor, alcohol (using its hydroxyl group) attacks both the amino group and the carboxyl group of the protein coating leading to the disintegration of the coat thereby exposing the RNA and thus inactivating the virus.

To avoid conflicting the statement he made a month ago that Busaa carried some quantities of afflotoxin, the former Moi University lecturer said, the brew is safe if clean maize or millet flour is used.

” Busaa made from clean maize is always good for consumption. Alcohol or wine is medicinal and is being used even in hospitals” the governor said

Culturally, the fermented brew made from maize flour was widely consumed by elderly men during traditional ceremonies like circumcision, barazas, funerals, weddings and family gatherings.

Barely two decades ago, brewing busaa business was a profitable venture in villages and slums that created employment and helped women put their children to school but it stopped because the government it illicit and unlicensed business.

It however, stopped because the villages and slums had become dens of alcoholics who drink from sunrise to sunset instead of going to work.

If this idea is embraced, Kenyans will be required to get licenses and Kenya Burueu of Standard (KEBS) approvals then sell the products in glass bottles.

According to the latest news, the Coronavirus death toll in mainland China continues to climb, with 1,113 deaths and 44,653 infections reported on Wednesday.

At least 25 countries have confirmed cases and several nations have evacuated their citizens from Hubei. Two deaths have been recorded outside mainland China – one in Hong Kong and one in  the Philippines .
